About the Artist

Throughout my artistic path I have moved back and forth between sculpture and abstract painting.

  • Sculpture:  Drawn to materials that do not necessarily "play well together", my palette is mainly kiln formed glass, cement, stone, and metal artifacts retrieved from the local junkyard.  What really intrigues me is learning the “language” of these disparate materials and bringing them together into a coherent whole.
  • Painting: After many years of landscape and figure drawing, I felt a need to work with the basics of visual composition. I have been exploring the world of abstraction and non-objective painting through mixed media, pastel and collage.

While each of these approaches periodically vies for ascendancy, they  have slowly but inexorably merged over the years, into a more unified voice.

As the fluency with various media above has increased, I have become more interested in expressing the stories that reflect my stage in life and the world around me. My recent artwork explores some of the " mental"models that have shaped my life and what really matters at this point in my journey.

After 10 years of part-time study I graduated from the Haliburton School of Arts in 2009 with a Diploma in Visual Arts. I also studied at glass schools in Germany (Bildwerk Frauenau -2012) and New Zealand (Whanganui Glass School under Kathryn Wightman -2013)

In my previous work life, I have been an adult educator, career counsellor and community developer. I have had the opportunity to work in government, non-profit organizations and as an entrepreneur. My previous work experience - for example assisting displaced workers for 10 years - profoundly shapes and informs my art.
